Ductile cast iron fittings' diameters are produced as per ISO2531, BS EN 545 standards and their extensions. Internally lined with cement or epoxy, externally coated with zinc an bitumen or epoxy, the joint of fittings can be socket, spigot, flanged and mechanical joint. The greater mechanical strenght of ductile iron has made it possible to improve the design of fittings and to reduce their dimensions. This makes it easier to lay mains in congested urban areas, and resets in a reduction in the size of valve chambers, the dimensions of which depend mainly on the space occupied by the fittings
